The World Cup of tennis is back again for 2021. This year’s Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten promise to be the biggest and best yet – find out everything you need to know.

When is the Davis Cup Finals 2021?

The Davis Cup Finals get underway from Thursday 25 November – with the first ties starting from 3pm UK time – and the finals will take place on Sunday 5 December.

Where is the Davis Cup Finals 2021 being held?

For the first time, this year’s finals will be held across three different countries:

  • Madrid Arena, Madrid, Spain
  • OlympiaWorld, Innsbruck, Austria
  • Pala Alpitour, Turin, Italy

Each venue will host the matches for two of the groups as well as at least one quarter-final.

The remaining teams will then head to Madrid for the final stages of the competition.

What is the format for the Davis Cup Finals 2021?

This year’s finals feature 18 teams from around the world, including 12 qualifiers, the previous year’s four semi-finalists and two wild cards.

The teams are divided up into one of six groups where they compete in a round robin format.

Each tie involves two singles and one doubles rubber, played as best of three tie-break set matches. The teams with the highest number of points in their group once all matches have been played, will qualify for the quarter-finals, alongside the best two runners-up.

The tournament will then go into straight knockout round until one team is crowned champion.

Which British players are competing at the Davis Cup Finals 2021?

Led by captain Leon Smith, Great Britain’s team for the Davis Cup Finals will feature:

  • Cam Norrie (WR: 12)
  • Dan Evans (WR: 25)
  • Liam Broady (WR: 128)
  • Joe Salisbury (Doubles WR: 3)
  • Neal Skupski (Doubles WR: 20)

With some of the ATP Tour's most in-form players right now, the British squad looks ready to mount a serious challenge this year and build on their semi-final finish in 2019.

Cam Norrie comes in fresh off an appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals and has been one of the best players on tour this season. With 50 wins to his name and the Indian Wells title to his name, Norrie will be a tough opponent for any player at this year’s finals.

Evans also comes in off a year where he won his first ATP title and was one of few players to defeat Novak Djokovic in 2021. He, Norrie and Broady have all reached career high singles rankings this year and will be one of the top singles trios in the competition.

Salisbury and Skupski are both 2021 Grand Slam champions – Salisbury winning the US Open men’s and mixed doubles, as well as the French Open mixed, and Skupski lifted the Wimbledon mixed title in July. They’re also experienced as a doubles pair having played together and won the title in San Diego a couple of months ago.
