It’s time from the return of one of the biggest events in the tennis calendar – BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells.

While it normally takes place in March, the ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event was pushed back to October this year due to the pandemic.

With the world’s biggest tennis stars heading to California this week with their eyes on joining a star-studded list of past champions – here’s everything you need to know about Indian Wells 2021.

When is the BNP Paribas Open 2021?

The BNP Paribas Open main draw will take place from Wednesday 6 October through to Sunday 17 October.

The tournament will kick-start on Wednesday starting with the WTA draw. The first round ATP draw will begin from Thursday 7 October.

Day session matches start at 7:00pm in the UK, with the night sessions getting underway at 2:00am.

The BNP Paribas Open has been held at the Indian Wells Gardens just outside of Palm Springs in California.

Which British players are competing at BNP Paribas Open 2021?

Emma Raducanu returns for her first tournament since she made history at the 2021 US Open.

The World No.22 enters is seeded 17th and will receive a bye in the first round. In round two, she could face either Maria Camila Osorio Serrano or Aliaksandra Sasnovich with a potential match up with her tennis hero, Simona Halep, in the third round.

Heather Watson lost a close battle with home favourite Sloane Stephens in the first round of the singles 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-1.

Watson will team up with Zheng SaiSai in the doubles draw to take on fourth seeds Desirae Krawczyk and Alexa Guarachi in their opening clash.

In the ATP singles draw, Dan Evans leads the way for the Brits as the 18th seed. He has a bye in the opening round but could face former top-5 player Kei Nishikori in the second round.

Cam Norrie enters off the back of a final run in San Diego and like Evans has a bye in round one. His first challenge will be either Thiago Monteiro or Tennys Sandgren.

Having received a wildcard for the main draw, 2009 finalist Andy Murray rounds off a strong line-up of British singles stars. Murray returns to Indian Wells for the first time since 2017 and will take on Adrian Mannarino in the first round.

In the doubles, US Open champions Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram come in as the second seeds and face a tough challenge against Norrie and Luke Saville in their opening match.

Seventh seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares play all German team Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff, while Miami finalists Neal Skupski and Evans take on John Isner and Jack Sock.
