Tennis Wales announce partnership with WimX to deliver national padel pathway across Wales.

• 4 MINUTE READ

Tennis Wales, the national governing body for tennis and padel in Wales, has announced a partnership with WimX to deliver the Welsh National Padel Pathway.

Padel has grown considerably in recent years, with over 4,500 people provided to play this year and the number of courts expected to double in 2025 and again in 2026 within Wales. With new padel courts, programmes and coaches in place, the new partnership between Tennis Wales and WimX will provide the first Welsh padel pathway for juniors and adults along with a calendar of CPD and training for padel coaches across the country.

WimX was established over 20 years ago as a tennis programme operator and has since evolved into a company that thrives on collaboration to deliver an array of sports projects and educational opportunities. With strong roots in development and performance tennis it has successfully developed and managed coaching programmes, teams and pathways for venues, communities and further education establishments. It has a strong track record in developing players from club to county to national and international level.

Just over 3 years ago WimX Padel was formed by Helen Crook, Victoria Davies and Jo Ward who, as former professional tennis players, have transferred their skills to Padel and have recently represented Great Britain at the FIP Senior World Padel Championships and have been at the top of the GB open rankings for the past two years. The founders have targeted specific individuals to join their team to ensure a highly skilled set of experienced and knowledgeable Padel coaches will deliver for the different age groups at development and performance levels in Wales.

Matt Rutland, National Development Manager for Tennis Wales commented
“We’ve been investing into the growth of padel in Wales, working with superb venues and operators to develop a network of padel facilities. As the number of facilities continues to grow, we’re ensuring that our coaches are well trained and supported, and that Welsh players have a pathway to succeed in the game”.

Hywel Lewis, Chair of the Welsh Padel Working Group
“This initiative by Tennis Wales will strengthen the DNA of Welsh Padel from local social communities right through to our competitive team players. With so much raw talent already apparent in Wales, increasing the availability and access to some of the top UK padel coaches is very very exciting.”

Victoria Davies, Partnership Manager for WimX said,
“As a Welsh player I am really excited to be involved in developing Padel in Wales and especially keen to open up clear pathways and opportunities, so players know what they need to do to achieve their potential”.

WimX has successfully delivered the first Welsh National Padel Training Camp in Cardiff, welcoming 48 players across Open, Over 40, Over 50, and Over 60 age groups (men and women). Players received expert coaching from the WimX team, including Icíar Montes (former World No.1, 9 times World Champion and current Spanish Open Team Captain), Javier Fernández (Coach, founder and CEO of Stratford Padel Club), led by Jo Ward (LTA Head of Education & Qualification Pathways, Level 5 Coach and Tutor), supported by WimX founders Helen Crook and Victoria Davies. Attendees left inspired and equipped with tools to improve their game.

WimX is proud to be appointed as the Welsh National Padel Pathways Coach and looks forward to supporting Tennis Wales in the growth and development of players, coaches, and venues across the country.
