LTA and Tennis Wales extend cancellation of competitions
• 2 MINUTE READ
The LTA and Tennis Wales have today extended the cancellation of all LTA staged and LTA approved competitions (grade 1 to 6) up to Sunday 28th June 2020. This means that the Junior County Cups (9U/10U/11U) and all age groups of the National League have been cancelled.
In addition to any competitions within this extended period now being cancelled, after liaison with The All England Lawn Tennis Club all stages of this year’s Road to Wimbledon competition have been cancelled, including August’s finals tournament. Also, following consultation with Seniors Tennis GB (STGB) it has been decided to cancel the STGB Inter Club Competition and LTA Seniors County Cup (40s to 75s Age Groups). A decision on County Week and Over 35s County Cup will be made by the end of May as it is too early to make a decision on competitions which are held in late July and August.
The LTA has updated a dedicated FAQ page in relation to competitions for both officials and players, both of which are accessible from our main coronavirus information page at www.lta.org.uk/coronavirus. Should you have any further questions, please refer to this in the first instance. Anyone with queries or questions relating to Wales specifically should contact Mark Lewis, Competitions & Events Manager.
Tennis Wales and the LTA remain in regular contact, and in direct dialogue with the UK and Welsh Government in relation to the coronavirus to ensure the guidance we are providing to those involved in tennis is the right advice at that time. Our joint aim is for tennis activity to return as soon as is possible in a way that is both safe and appropriate based on Government advice. This includes scenario planning for a resumption of tennis competitions when conditions allow, but at this stage it remains too early to speculate as to how or when this may be.
