Leah McDaniel joins the Tennis Wales Board of Directors

• 2 MINUTE READ

Tennis Wales, the national governing body for tennis in Wales has appointed Leah McDaniel to join its Board, as the organisation continues to work towards its 2020 – 2024 vision for tennis opened up across Wales.

Leah is currently a Lead Lecturer of Sociology at Coleg Cambria in Wrexham and has previously played and coached tennis both in the UK and in America.

Simon Johnson, CEO of Tennis Wales said:

“I'm delighted to welcome Leah to the Board here at Tennis Wales. Leah's background and knowledge of tennis, combined with her teaching and professional career will be invaluable to us as we continue to navigate the sport though the Covid-19 pandemic and deliver our vision for tennis opened up across Wales”.

Tennis Wales’ new 2020 – 2024 vision for tennis opened up across Wales launched in 2020, and with 1,200 tennis courts across Wales, the governing body is committed to growing the game by making it relevant, accessible, welcoming and enjoyable right across the country in the years ahead.

Commenting on her background and upon joining Tennis Wales, Leah said:

"I am delighted to be joining the Tennis Wales Board and contributing toward the exciting vision for tennis to be opened up across Wales. Tennis has been such an integral part of my life, and has provided so many opportunities for me as both a player and coach in the past. I am now looking forward to using some of my experience on the court to contribute toward the growth and progress of tennis in Wales. Additionally my day job as a sociology lecturer means that I can use my expertise in the classroom to further the growing diversity of tennis in Wales. Making tennis accessible for everyone is something I'm incredibly passionate about, and I look forward to working with the organisation to do just that."

Leah joins the Tennis Wales Board following election at the 2020 North Wales Annual Open Meeting held in November. Tennis continues to open up following the Covid-19 restrictions, with Tennis Wales reporting a growth in participation this year, with more than 131,000 adults taking part in the last 12 months.
