County Team Challenge events a big success
• 1 MINUTE READ
Tennis Wales worked with our U10 County Coordinators and county coaches to deliver two Team Challenge style events in Colwyn Bay and Newport.
Over 100 players aged between six and ten years old came out in force to represent their clubs and themselves in a welcoming and enjoyable format of team competition.
The red (U8) and orange (U9) events required clubs from across the two counties to enter two-player teams which played against each other in a round robin format. Some of the matches consisted of both singles and doubles and it was great to see such busy courts filled with young players who were enjoying competing against each other.
The players at the events included those who are already part of the County Performance Programme, those who are on the fringes of that and also some players who were brand new to competition outside of internal matches they have played at their club. The coaching staff on hand ensured that the day was well organised for them and that enjoyment was at the heart of their experience.
A big thank you to all of the players who took part and to their parents for bringing them along. We plan to ensure that there are more opportunities for players to play in team events in Wales in 2022.
