Tennis Scotland statement: Scotstoun Indoor Tennis Centre
• 2 MINUTE READ
Tennis Scotland are firmly opposed to Glasgow Life’s plans to remove two indoor tennis courts to accommodate padel at Scotstoun. This will be severely detrimental to our ability to host top-class international tennis events in Scotland and will create an inhospitable environment for our young performance players and community organisations offering accessible tennis.
As the governing body for tennis and padel in Scotland, we are committed to developing both sports and we have offered alternative solutions with support from partners, including one which would provide a new padel facility at Scotstoun while also protecting this vital tennis venue. We have also offered to lease the tennis centre so that we can increase usage and guarantee greater income than is currently in place.
We are grateful to top British players such as Jack Draper and Scotland’s Gordon Reid and Jacob Fearnley for their support on this matter, and we will do everything we can to encourage Glasgow Life to reconsider.
In the meantime, we are continuing to work with the LTA and sportscotland to progress plans for more indoor tennis centres across Scotland.
