Tennis Scotland Release Winter Education Calendar

| Tennis Scotland

Building on a successful summer of coach education, with lessons delivered to more than 200 candidates, Tennis Scotland is set to continue developing the Scottish workforce by offering a range of courses for individuals to progress through the coaching pathway at indoor venues this winter.

Following the introduction of new LTA coaching pathway stages, additional opportunities have been created to participate in LTA Assistant and LTA Instructor level courses (formerly LTA Level 1 and Level 2), which will bolster the foundations of club coaching teams in Scotland. The new courses will provide a refreshed teaching approach to coach education.

Designed for individuals making their first steps on the coach education pathway, the new LTA Assistant (formerly Level 1) course is perfectly suited to people looking to assist current coaches qualified as Instructors and above. The two-day course will provide the skills to:

  • Motivate young players through engaging communication
  • Help coordinate effective sessions for youth players
  • Illustrate effective demonstrations
  • Comprehend safeguarding issues
  • Assist in the running of club level competitions
  • Deliver LTA Youth activities

The new four-day LTA Instructor (formerly Level 2) course will allow individuals to deliver high-quality tennis sessions to groups of adults and beginner level players of all ages. This covers a range of topics including:

  • Effective communication
  • Creating a suitable learning environment
  • Understanding how to introduce basic tactics and technique
  • Developing inclusive coaching sessions
  • Leading successful doubles and cardio tennis sessions
  • Ensuring safeguarding best practice
  • Running competitions

* Individuals who already hold accredited qualifications are not required to undertake previously completed stages of the pathway. Please also note that the LTA Instructor course requires a prerequisite first aid certificate, PVG within 12 months and/or 7.1 rating or Readiness Test.

You can register for upcoming LTA Assistant and LTA Instructor courses here.

Coach CPD Courses

For existing and newly qualified coaches, we also have a range of four-hour CPD courses taking place across Scotland over the next few months. The sessions account for four credits for accredited coaches qualified at Level 3 and above.

Upcoming courses include:

  • How to use psychology to optimise player development (St Andrews, Glasgow, Edinburgh)
