Join us as Head of Coach Development and Support, Merlin Van De Braam, presents on 'Facilitating mental skills in young teenage players: 5 key tips for on- and off-court.

This presentation will outline how coaches can introduce basic mental skills and competencies into everyday practice for young developing players just starting out in competition. The presentation will cover the difference between mental skills and mental tools, and the role of both in player development. Coaches will learn exercises and tasks that facilitate the development of mental skills, that can be implemented on- and off-court in a simple and practical way.

Merlin is currently the Head of Coach Development & Support at the Lawn Tennis Association. A qualified coach for 15 years, Merlin holds the LTA Senior Performance Qualification and the ITF Coach of Advanced Players Qualification. Merlin is an LTA Accredited+ Coach. Prior to the LTA, Merlin worked for the International Tennis Federation overseeing the delivery the ITF’s coach education platforms and was the Associate Editor of the ITF Coaching and Sport Science Review journal, based in Valencia, Spain. He has a Master’s Degree with distinction in Sport & Exercise Psychology from Loughborough University, and a BA in Psychology. Merlin is published in mental imagery in tennis, emotional intelligence and has been a contributor to a number of tennis publications, including TennisHead magazine and is a contributing author for the psychology chapter of the 2nd edition of the ITF Coach of Advanced Players manual.
