How can I become a Line or Chair Umpire?

To qualify as a Chair Umpire and Line Umpire you will need to attend and pass a three day LTA Umpire course.

The first day covers line umpiring and days two and three cover chair umpiring. The course is a mixture of classroom learning and on court practical sessions.

To be eligible to attend a course you must be aged 16 or over and be a current UK resident.

 

The pass criteria for the course is:

  • Satisfactory performance on court as a Line Umpire on the first day
  • Satisfactory performance chairing a short practice match on the final day
  • Passing a rules, regulations and procedures exam on the final day
  • Holding an LTA Officials Licence
