More wheelchair tennis than ever to feature at LTA grass court events in 2025

• 3 MINUTE READ

Disability tennis will once again feature extensively across the LTA’s grass court events, with events taking place across the HSBC Championships, Lexus Nottingham Open, Lexus Eastbourne Open, and the Lexus British Open Roehampton.

The summer of 2024 was capped off by magnificent performances at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, including gold medals for Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, helping to further raise the profile of disability tennis. This summer, the presence of disability tennis will continue across the grass-court season, helping to showcase the sport’s inclusivity for all.

Wheelchair tennis begins in Nottingham

The action begins at the Lexus Nottingham Open, where the tournament’s family fun weekend, taking place during WTA and ATP qualifying, will include wheelchair tennis, giving people the chance to give the sport a go. Later in the week on finals weekend, women’s and quad wheelchair exhibition matches will take place for the first time at the Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre. The matches – one women’s singles, one quad singles, and one mixed doubles – featuring leading British players Lucy Shuker, Cornelia Oosthuizen, and Paris 2024 silver medallists Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade.

Matches will take place on the outside match courts before play begins on centre court on finals weekend, so be sure to head down to see Britain’s best in action.

Also in Nottingham, to mark Learning Disability Awareness Week and following their historic success at the 2025 Virtus World Championships, Great Britain’s Learning Disability tennis team will be honoured on Wednesday the 18th of June, recognising the best-ever result for Great Britain at this event.

Kings of wheelchair tennis return to the Queen’s Club

At the Queen’s Club in West London, the ATP 500 event at the HSBC Championships will once again feature a men’s wheelchair tennis exhibition at the biggest grass-court event outside of The Championships at Wimbledon. This year, the thousand-seat Court One will see Britain take on Spain, as paralympic heroes Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid play Daniel Caverzaschi and Martin de la Puente, with singles matches on Saturday the 21st of June, followed by the singles final and a doubles match on Sunday the 22nd.

Anyone with a ground pass on Saturday or Sunday can see these four top-ten players in action, so be sure to head over to Court One to catch four of the world’s best wheelchair tennis players in action.

Para-standing tennis exhibition at Lexus Eastbourne Open as ITF Tour wheelchair events get underway

At this year’s Lexus Eastbourne Open, men’s, women’s and quad wheelchair tennis returns to Devonshire Park as part of an ITF1 series event on the UNIQLO Wheelchair World Tennis Tour, with British interest including Gordon Reid in the men’s draw, Lucy Shuker in the women’s draw, and Andy Lapthorne in the quad draw.

On Saturday the 28th of June, alongside the finals of the respective wheelchair draws, there will be the first-ever showcase of para-standing tennis at an LTA grass-court event. Showing the breadth of disability tennis available to play, Britain’s para-standing tennis world champions Matt Grover and Ross Cudmore will play against two wheelchair tennis players who are competing in the ITF event, following which there will be a chance for spectators to have a go at wheelchair tennis themselves. The exhibition will take place on court six following the conclusion of the wheelchair singles finals, so be sure to head down to see the world’s best wheelchair and parastanding players, and to give wheelchair tennis a go yourself.

Lexus British Open Roehampton sees Britain’s best competing ahead of The Championships, Wimbledon

Following the conclusion of the Lexus Eastbourne Open, the wheelchair contingent will travel to South West London for their final Wimbledon preparations, as the Lexus British Open Roehampton gets underway. Last year, Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid reached the final and semi-final respectively of the ITF1 event, hosted alongside an ITF J300 junior event, with each hoping to go one better this time round as they prepare to defend titles at The Championships, Wimbledon.

The event will also see schools from the local area given the chance to get on court, and try wheelchair tennis, as well as watch the pros in action on court.

Chris Pollard, Managing Director of Events and Operations at the LTA, said, “I’m delighted that British tennis fans will have the chance to see some of the world’s best disability tennis players across the grass-court summer. Whether it’s our Paralympic legends Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, or Lucy Shuker our record-breaking Virtus World Championships learning disability tennis squad, or para-standing world champions Matt Grover and Ross Cudmore, these players show that tennis is a sport that anyone can play, and I hope people are inspired by what they see to take up the sport for themselves.”
