Miami Open 2026: Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara finish runners-up to Italian duo
• 2 minute read
Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara finished as runners-up against seventh seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the men’s doubles final at the Miami Open presented by Itau.
The in-form duo fell short against the Italians 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 13 minutes inside the Hard Rock Stadium.
Patten and Heliovaara were on an 12 match unbeaten streak and were bidding to lift their fourth title of the season - adding to their successes in Adelaide, Doha and Dubai.
Speaking on finishing runners-up, Patten said, “We really wanted to have a fun match, we usually have fun matches with these guys.
“Two of the nicest guys on tour, but not too fun to play on a tennis court, unfortunately! Congrats to your entire team. Thank you to our team who have been supporting us all week and all year, couldn’t do it without you guys.”
Meanwhile, the Finnish star added, “Me and Henry had an unbelievable start to the season, three titles already. But we have not felt as uncomfortable on the court as today for a long time.
“So congrats, guys, for making us destroy ourselves with your crazy good game! You deserve it today.”
Patten and Heliovaara came into the final with a commanding 5-1 lead in their head-to-head against Bolelli and Vavassori, including two wins earlier this season but the Italians proved too strong in Miami.
Bolelli and Vavassori won 82% of points behind their first serve throughout the match and saved all three break points they faced throughout the match. They were particularly dangerous on the return - breaking the two-time Grand Slam champions at the beginning of each set to take control of the match
Meanwhile, Patten and Heliovaara struggled to find the form that had seen them to reach the final without dropping a set. The third seeds conceded the double break at 4-2 in the second before the Italians closed out their first Masters 1000 crown with a hold to love.
Patten and Heliovaara will now turn their attention to the clay court swing, where they will hope to continue their impressive form so far this season.
