Emma Raducanu becomes the new British No.1 after US Open title run

• 1 MINUTE READ

Emma Raducanu is the new British No.1 - rising 127 places to World No.23 following her title run at the US Open.

She joins a select club of only 22 women to have been ranked as the nation’s number one player since the WTA world rankings were established in 1975.

The 18-year-old’s stunning win over Leylah Fernandez in the US Open women's singles final has seen her succeed Johanna Konta as British No.1, almost to the day that Konta first took over as British No.1 spot on 14 September 2015. That six-year uninterrupted reign of Johanna Konta has itself set a new record for the longest continuous run as the nation’s leading playing, breaking the previous record held by Virginia Wade from 1975-1980 by just two days.

Find out how Raducanu is supported by the LTA’s Pro Scholarship Programme

Raducanu, who is one of 12 elite players on the LTA’s Pro Scholarship Programme, will become the 22nd woman ever to rank as Britain’s No.1 in WTA rankings history and only the 7th player in the last 19 years after Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong, Katie O’Brien, Heather Watson, Laura Robson and Konta.
