Cam Norrie has finished runner-up at the Moselle Open for the second year in a row after falling short against Learner Tien in a tight three-set battle.
Norrie fought back from a break down in the deciding set against the teenager, but narrowly lost out on claiming a sixth ATP title by suffering a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6) defeat in two hours and 12 minutes.
This marked the 30-year-old's 11th ATP final of his career and first of the 2025 season.
It’s been an impressive end to the year for the British No.2 who backed up strong campaign in Paris – where he defeated then world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz – by reaching the final in Metz for the second successive year.
He now wraps up the season ranked inside the world’s top 30 and in a strong position ahead of 2026, where he will be seeded at the Australian Open.
The Brit had battled back from a set down in three consecutive matches during his campaign in Metz, and didn’t drop his head when the American raced through the opening set in 30 minutes in Saturday's final.
However, the five-time ATP title-winner turned up the pressure early in the second, forcing Tien to save five break points in the fourth game before finding his breakthrough at the sixth opportunity.
A single break was all Norrie needed to edge ahead, as he closed out the set with a commanding hold to love to take the contest to a nail-biting decider.
Tien flipped the momentum in the final set, with the world No.38 surging to a 4-1 lead - leaving Norrie hanging on by a thread. The Briton was at the risk of falling a double break down but dug deep to save two break points before rallying to win three games on the bounce and pull the scoreboard back to 4-4.
The pendulum appeared to be swinging in Norrie’s direction in the tie-break as the world No.27 opened up a 5-1 lead, but another twist in the match saw the rising ATP star fight back from the brink of defeat.
Tien caught sight of the first match point, only for the former Indian Wells champion to fend off the threat by launching a thunderous forehand into the baseline. However, a second opportunity soon presented itself for the teenager, who went on to seal his maiden ATP title at the second time of asking as Norrie sent a backhand into the net.
