Broom falls just short of consecutive doubles titles as Chidekh goes back-to-back at Lexus Glasgow Challenger

Britain’s Charles Broom continued his fine doubles form at the start of 2026, but fell just short of back-to-back titles, as he and partner Ben Jones finished runners-up at the Lexus Glasgow Challenger.
With Broom having triumphed at the Lexus Nottingham Challenger the week before, and Jones reaching the semi-finals, both men arrived at Scotstoun Community Indoor Tennis Centre full of confidence. After defeating the fourth seeds in round one, and home favourites Scott Duncan and James MacKinlay in the quarter finals, Broom and Jones secured their first final as a pair since last summer’s Lexus Ilkley Open by defeating Andrew Fenty and Joshua Sheehy.
The Brits faced the German Colombian pair of Christoph Negritu and Adria Soriano Barrera for the title, and started off strong, with an early break helping them take the first set 6-2. However, Negritu and Barrera fought back, forcing a match tiebreak after taking the second set, and after reeling off six points in a row to surge into a 7-3 lead, the gap was too great for the Brits to recover from, with Negritu and Barrera sealing a 2-6 6-2 10-4 win.
After the match, Christoph said, "I feel very comfortable playing with Adria, we have a lot of fun on the court and we can joke around even when it gets close. It's a great atmosphere here, it's so much fun to play here and everyone is so nice." Adria added, "It's my first time here in Scotland and I am very happy with how many people came to watch us, you make the experience way better."

In the singles, France’s Clement Chidekh returned to the venue where he sealed his maiden ATP Challenger crown in 2024, and made it back-to-back titles as followed his win at the Lexus Nottingham Challenger last week with another crown in on the Clyde.
Despite being the number two seed, the Frenchman came into the final facing a strong challenge from former world number 38 Mikhail Kukushkin, who reached the final without dropping a set. Kukushkin started the stronger of the two, taking the first set, but he would only win one more game in the entire match after that, as Chidekh dominated the second set and the start of the third, before Kukushkin retired at 4-0 down in the third, with Chidekh claiming a 5-7 6-1 4-0 ret. victory.
After the match, Chidekh said, "I've been here twice a year for the past few years now and the reason I keep coming back, everyday we drive past the bridge that says 'People make Glasgow' and it really is true because everyone here is so amazing. I really hope I can come back again in the future."
Following the conclusion of the singles final, Tournament Director Mike Cohen said, “We’ve had a fantastic week hosting the Lexus Glasgow Challenger at Glasgow Club Scotstoun and were delighted to welcome big crowds to support the players. The event culminated in an exciting finals day with lots of great tennis on show. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone involved for making this such a memorable week.”
