Andy Murray to face Peter Crouch in BBC Children in Need padel match

• 2 MINUTE READ

Peter Crouch and Andy Murray are set to take part in a sporting match-up like no other for BBC Children in Need.

In the ultimate grudge match between two British sporting icons, Andy Murray will face Peter Crouch in a match of padel. Forget Wimbledon, the World Cup or Sports Personality of the Year – this is for the Pudsey Cup.

In this tongue-in-cheek contest, the duo’s rivalry comes to a head and the gauntlet is thrown down for a game Andy and Peter won’t ever forget.

As a youngster, Peter made a decision that would change the course of his life forever – when he was forced to pick between his two loves, football and tennis.

Since hanging up his tennis racket as a teenager, he’s constantly wondered where his tennis career could have taken him.

And that’s where Andy comes in, because now Peter’s retired from football, he fancies resuming that tennis career and has challenged the former World No.1 to a tennis grudge match at the National Tennis Centre.

However, this head to head will have a special twist – as they will actually face off over a game of padel.

“I’ve finally had the chance to fulfil my dreams of being a tennis star with the help of BBC Children in Need,” said Peter. “I’m so glad I could be a part of something that helps so many children across the UK.”

“Crouchy challenged me a while back to a game of tennis, apparently he used to be quite good,” said Andy. “I’m not quite sure he was prepared for padel though. He tried every trick in the book to try and win, you’ll have to watch BBC Children in Need’s 2020 Appeal Night to find out how he got on.”

Viewers can tune in to see the beginnings of the world’s fiercest new sporting rivalry as part of BBC Children in Need’s 2020 Appeal Night, which is set to broadcast live on BBC One from 7pm on Friday November 13.
