Johanna Konta celebrates a point in the Fed Cup match against Estonia

Great Britain made it another hat-trick of victories as they swept past hosts Estonia to top their Fed Cup pool in Tallinn on Friday.

Following up their clean sweep of Portugal on Wednesday, the British quartet of Heather Watson, Johanna Konta, Anna Smith, and Katie Boulter saw off Estonia to earn a place in the Euro/Africa Zone Group I play-offs on Saturday.

Watson once again kicked things off in style, breezing past Estonian youngster Katriin Saar in just 57 minutes. The Brit was too strong for her 15-year-old opponent, who put up an early fight but soon succumbed to a 6-1, 6-1 defeat.

While Watson enjoyed a relatively easy run to victory, British No.1 Johanna Konta faced a far sterner test in the shape of local favourite and world No.27 Anett Kontaveit.

The opening set was a tense affair as the players exchanged six breaks of serve, but with home support driving her on Kontaveit was eventually able to secure the early lead via a tight tiebreaker.

Refusing to let the vocal fans get the better of her, Konta dug deep to get a decisive break in the second set and take proceedings into a decider. From there, the World No.11 accelerated to seal a 6-7(5), 6-4. 6-2 victory in two hours and nine minutes.

With the tie sealed, captain Anne Keothavong sent Wednesday’s doubles pairing of Anna Smith and Katie Boulter back into the fray, and the duo did not disappoint as they wrapped up the whitewash with a 6-1, 6-1 success.

Next up for Pool B winners Great Britain are Hungary in Saturday’s play-off, with a place in April’s World Group II play-off at stake.
