Lexus British Open Roehampton 2026: Janae Preston and Michael Antonius crowned junior singles champions

• 2 minute read

The junior event at the Lexus British Open Roehampton has concluded, with international stars Janae Preston and Michael Antonius securing the singles titles.

The J300 tournament is being held alongside the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour 1000 event at Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre.

American Janae Preston came from a set down to defeat China's Yu Jun Lin 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the girls' singles final.

"It was tough. I lost the first set but I battled through," said Preston. "I think I fought really well. I wasn't playing my best tennis, especially in the first set, and honestly I wasn't playing that well in the second either. But I was able to use my athleticism and fight, and it kind of worked out."

In the boys' singles final, sixth seed Michael Antonius edged a closely contested second-set tie-break to overcome Slovakian qualifier Svit Suljic 6-4, 7-6(5).

Reflecting on his victory, the American said: "I was kind of tired today after a long week, but I played well and stuck to the basics. I served really well and got the job done.

"I played Junior Wimbledon a few years ago, but this is my first tournament win on grass."

Both champions will now turn their attention to Junior Wimbledon, which begins on Saturday 4 July.

The boys' doubles title went to German duo Jamie Mackenzie and Vincent Reisach, who defeated American Jack Secord and Kazakhstan's Damir Zhalgasbay 6-2, 6-2 in the final. The victory marked their second title together following their Roland Garros junior doubles triumph last month.

There was British success in the girls' doubles draw as Daniella Britton and Edie Griffiths reached the final. Britton won both the 16U and 18U Lexus Junior National singles titles in April.

The British pair battled through four three-set matches to reach the championship match before finishing runners-up to Czech duo Jana Kovackova and Katerina Zajickova, who sealed a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
