“It’s a title I’ve wanted to win my whole career” – Julian Cash & Lloyd Glasspool on their Queen’s victory & looking ahead to Wimbledon

On Sunday 22 June 2025, doubles duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool made history as the first all-British team in the Open Era to win the men’s doubles title at The Queen’s Club.

Cash and Glasspool came through a tense championship tie-break to beat Michael Venus and Nikola Mektic 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-6 in the HSBC Championships final.

It marks their third title of the season so far as one of the in-form doubles teams this season. They currently sit fourth in the ATP Doubles Race for the Finals in Turin later in the year.

We caught up with the Queen’s champions before the Lexus Eastbourne Open for an exclusive interview ahead of their third grass court event of the year.

“It’s just about sunk in,” Cash said reflecting on another landmark achievement. “It’s been a crazy couple of days, but we’re delighted with the week, delighted with the win. To get the win on home soil was fantastic – we really enjoyed it.

“To have friends and family there, all the Brits supporting us – it’s a title I’ve wanted to win my whole career, but I never knew if I’d get an opportunity to do so. To get over the line there was really nice.”

Cash and Glasspool are quickly making a name for themselves on the grass this year – not only winning the HSBC Championships but also reaching the final of the Libema Open.

With Eastbourne this week and Wimbledon looming on the horizon, the duo will be one of the favourites to challenge for silverware. They will be looking to continue the run of British champions in the men’s doubles at Wimbledon, joining Neal Skupski (2023) and Cash’s former doubles partner, Henry Patten (2024).

“I think we’re really confident on any surface but grass especially at the moment. We’ve only lost one match out of eight,” Glasspool said. “It’s really given us a boost and one I think we needed a little bit and makes us confident going into Wimbledon now.”

Cash added, “We’ve gone into both slams this year knowing that we’ve got a shot. It’s about putting it together over two weeks, but we know we have the level, we know we can beat all the players. We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can get started well.”

Currently, Cash and Glasspool are ranked No.12 and 17 in the world as two of seven British players inside the ATP top 40.

The rise of British doubles is no coincidence and is in large parts linked with the work of expert doubles coach Louis Cayer as part of the LTA performance coaching set up.

“I think he has a very good system that we all play under,” said Glasspool. “He creates a really competitive and good environment for everyone to want to learn, push themselves, push each other. The environment he brings helps everyone get up there together.”

“Generally, everyone gets on really well,” Cash explained, commenting on the relationship between the British stars. “We train together and everyone has known each other for a long time, a few of us were playing tournaments together as kids. We’re all pushing each other on and striving to do well in the sport.”

Now coming into Eastbourne, local hero Cash is enjoying some home comforts at an event that has played a big part in his tennis journey.

“This is the first pro event I came to,” he said. “It was just a women’s event back then. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and it was one of the things that made me love the sport so to be back here playing is always special.”
