Kids Hub - Keeping You Safe
Spark is our friendly dragon, who loves to play tennis and padel with his family and friends.
Over time, Spark has learned that while sport can be competitive, it’s also about having fun, looking out for one another and being safe. Learn more about Spark below.
Behaviour's
It is important to Spark that you have the best time whilst playing tennis and padel. Spark has made some fact sheets that help you know how you, your club, your coach and parents/carers should behave to make you feel happy and safe.
The History of Spark
At the end of 2024, Tennis Wales advertised an exciting competition encouraging our young players to help us to create our new Safeguarding mascot. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to send in their ideas, and we were overwhelmed by their creativity and talent.
Part of the specification was to ensure that the mascot would represent Wales, and tennis and padel in all its forms, and we saw various designs including, wolves, turtles, bears, sheep, leeks and tennis balls. Our competition panel finally chose a winner, Tomos Wilkinson-Spittle (aged 11 from Rhyl), based on the vibrant colours used, it’s adaptability and Welsh identification of his Welsh Dragon. Tomos received some fantastic prizes including a Chromebook and some gifts from our ball supplier HEAD UK.
Tomos’ design was then sent to professional illustrator ‘a guy called Minty’, to be brought to life, you can see the variations below…..
Once our final design was approved, Spark came to life, and has been altered to capture tennis and padel in it’s numerous forms to ensure that all children throughout our community feel represented.
Our aim is to put Spark to work! Where Children see these images, they will recognize that there is important information for them to read. Our aim is to make sure that children feel safe, secure and happy, and we hope that Spark will help towards achieving this.
Thank you to all of our entrants, our runners up, Tomas, HEAD UK and ‘a guy called Minty’ for your support.
