Charlie Robertson's thrilling run to Junior US Open semi-finals

• 2 MINUTE READ

Charlie Robertson brought the curtain down on his Junior Grand Slam career with a thrilling run to the US Open semi-finals in New York.

The 17-year-old made his mark at Flushing Meadows by reaching the final four without dropping a set during a highly impressive week.

Robertson started his campaign against Andres Santamarta Roig, breaking serve a total of six times en route to a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

Next up was the American youngster Alexander Razeghi, with the young Scot needing to save three set points in the first before coming through 7-6(7). Despite going behind to an early break in the second, Robertson put his foot on the accelerator and clinched a 6-3 victory.

Into the last 16, he faced up against Jangjun Kim for the third Grand Slam in a row – and just like on the clay of Roland Garros and the grass of Wimbledon, Robertson proved too strong on the hard courts of the US Open, bagging a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Swiss qualifier Flynn Thomas was waiting in the last eight, but only 56 minutes was needed for Robertson to claim the win, putting on a superb performance to triumph 6-1, 6-2.

A tougher test appeared to be waiting in the last four, and so it proved as junior world number one and Wimbledon champion Nicolai Budkov Kjaer edged through a number of tight games to win 6-3, 6-3.

All in all, it was a brilliant week for Charlie, who now enters the top 10 in the junior rankings for the first time.

Golden moment for Gordon at Paralympics

Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett became the first partnership in history to complete the career Golden Slam in men’s wheelchair doubles.

They beat Japanese second seeds Tokito Oda and Takuya Miki in straight sets in the final of the 2024 Paris Paralympics – giving Reid a second gold to go alongside his 2016 singles title, as well as two silvers (2016 & 2020) and a bronze (2020).

The 32-year-old Scot also became first ParalympicsGB player to bank wheelchair tennis gold medals in both singles and doubles.
