Gordon Reid wins World Team Cup
Gordon Reid, along with Alfie Hewett, Ben Bartram and Dahnon Ward were crowned champions once again over the weekend as they successfully defended their title in Antalya, Turkey.
The Lexus GB World Team Cup team dominated the group stage as they picked up three 3-0 victories against South Africa, Japan and Brazil. Gordon tallied four wins in the group stages, winning singles in straight sets against Brazil and Japan, as well as partnering with Ward to collect wins over Japan and South Africa in doubles.
In the semi-final the team played France, who went undefeated in Group D to top their group. Despite Bartram and Ward losing out in the doubles, Reid and Hewett were able to get the job done in singles to book GB’s ticket to the final. Gordon bested Frederic Cattaneo 6-4 6-0 whilst Alfie defeated Stephane Houdet 6-0 6-2.
The final saw Team GB play Spain, who had beaten the Netherlands 2-1 in the other semi-final. Reid opened with a straight sets 6-3 6-4 win over Daniel Caverzaschi to put GB ahead. Hewett battled back from a set down to overcome Martin De la Puente 2-6 6-4 6-1 to clinch the title and retain the BNP Paribas Men's World Team Cup.
The team are now back-to-back title holders with the Sunday’s win constituting to Great Britain’s fourth title in the past nine appearances as well as Gordon’s fourth title.
TS Open Tour recap
The Moir Construction Tennis Tayside Open was held in St. Andrews over the weekend as the latest event in the 2024 TS Open Tour Leaderboard calendar.
North of Scotland’s Cameron Fryer entered as the top seed in the men’s event and went all the way with an impressive few days of tennis.
Fryer opened against Henry Sommer who he beat 6-3 6-4 to get his tournament up and running. He then beat Ben Cooper for a spot in the semi-final.
He faced Adam Clunie who had beaten third seed David Killean 16-14 in a final set tie-break. Fryer took the first set 7-6(1) before Clunie was forced to retire, sending Cameron through to the final.
There he faced last year’s runner-up Jed Alexander. Jed was placed second in the latest 2024 TS Open Tour Leaderboard with Cameron in third place.
Alexander had enjoyed a dominant run to the final as he won all of his matches in straight sets. However, Fryer kept his own momentum going to take home the title 7-5 6-3 for his first title of the season.
Fryer also won the doubles title with partner Finlay Watters. They defeated top seeds Liam O’Brien and Jed Alexander to secure the perfect weekend of tennis for Cameron.
Meanwhile, in the women’s draw top seed East of Scotland’s Aadya Iyer Chadalawada was able to capture her second title of the season.
Iyer Chadalawada defeated Rachael Szeto in the semi-final 6-1 6-2 before downing second seed Hanna Augustynska 6-0 6-3 in the final to earn another first-place finish in 2024.

Scots progress to NCAA elite eight
Jacob Fearnley was once again instrumental for TCU as they booked their spot in the NCAA Championships quarter-final.
Playing Duke University (#13), Fearnley teamed up with Pedro Vives at the top spot in doubles to get a 6-2 win, securing the doubles point.
Moving on to singles, Jacob played at the second spot in the lineup where he put gave the Horned Frogs their second point by beating Pedro Rodenas (#43) 6-2 6-0, leading to a 4-0 overall win.
The team travels to play the University of Kentucky in Stillwater, Oklahoma where the remainder of the tournament will be played.
He will be joined there by fellow Scots Matt Rankin, Vincent Gillespie and James McKie.
Rankin’s Kentucky beat Harvard University 4-2. Gillespie coached Wake Forest to a win over Stanford whilst McKie’s Tennessee team saw off Florida State 4-3, putting an end to Jamie Connel’s Championships journey and impressive season.
