Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett’s record-breaking haul of Grand Slam men’s wheelchair doubles reached another landmark as the top seeds claimed their 23rd Grand Slam title together.
Hewett and Reid came through a turbulent match to eventually edge out Stephane Houdet and Tokito Oda 6-4, 1-6, (10-7).
Their latest victory means that they now own an unprecedented streak of six successive titles at both the French Open and the Australian Open, the first two Grand Slam tournaments of the year.
Speaking after the final, Reid - who now has a personal tally of 29 Grand Slam titles and eight French Open doubles titles – said: “It’s always a pleasure to have him [Alfie] on my side of the net.
"I want to say a big thanks to everyone who came in to watch, you guys created such an amazing atmosphere that we love to play in front of.
"Thank you, too, to our team; all of you have worked so hard this week, and obviously back home, for moments like this.”
Stewart seals another title on ITF tour
Hamish Stewart secured his seventh ITF World Tennis Tour title of the year by winning the men’s doubles at an M15 in Turkey.
Stewart teamed up with fellow Briton Peter Alam to reach the final in Kayseri without dropping a set.
But the pair had to dig deep to get their hands on the trophy after coming from a set down to beat Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine and Axel Nefve 6-7, 7-5, 10-5.
Repeat finals in Scottish Cup
This year’s Scottish Inter-Club Challenge Cup finals will see a repeat of the 2024 showpiece after a dramatic day of semi-final action.
In the men’s event, Newlands will look to avenge last year’s loss at the hands of Thorn Park, while the Newlands women’s side will aim to secure their sixth consecutive title against Braid.
Perth and Rubislaw were the defeated semi-finalists on the men’s side, while David Lloyd Hamilton and Western also saw their cup runs end at the last four in the women’s event.
Finals day takes place at Whitecraigs Tennis Club on Saturday 14 June from 11am with spectators welcome and entry completely free.
Winners crowned at schools championships
Congratulations to all the teams who took part in the Scottish Schools Team Championship 2025.
Boys and girls from across Scotland gathered at Glasgow Academy for two days of fun-filled and dramatic tennis action.
In the end, it was Strathallan School who successfully defended the girls’ title, but there were new champions in the boys’ event as Merchiston Castle reigned supreme.
