Tennis Development Officer
We are looking for an experienced Tennis Coach to join our team and lead in the success of our newly built Indoor Tennis Centre – Dumfries and Galloway Tennis Centre. The centre is nearing completion with an expected soft launch Dec 2025, this presents an incredible opportunity for a passionate individual to lead the success and launch of this new 3-court Tennis Centre. You will be part of the senior management team for the centre and have the opportunity to shape and develop the centre, aimed at attracting new players to the game and retaining existing players through a provision of LTA Youth and Adult coaching, pay to play court access and competitions. You will work closely with our partners, Dumfries and Galloway Council, sportscotland, the LTA and tennisscotland, along with clubs, Dumfries and Galloway District and South County association. Accountable to the CEO, you have the opportunity to make a large impact regionally.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering of high-quality tennis coaching sessions and competitions to players of all ages and abilities. Including promotional and school outreach events, representing Dumfries and Galloway Tennis Centre at development forums and in area plans, managing/mentoring other coaches, and communicating with players and parents. You will have a keen eye for quality, a focus on retention and improvement, and be able to work to targets and budget. You should be proactive to maximising opportunity for people to participate. Idea lead and solution oriented in approach. You will work closely with centre administrators to ensure the smooth running of programmes and court bookings.
It is expected you will lead a team of assistants, and coaches in training, assisting in recruitment, management and mentoring through qualifications. Ideally you will have experience in running competitive events for all ages and stages, and share the importance of competition in player development.
Queen of the South Community Trust, is the Charitable partner of Queen of the South Football club and currently operates King George V complex (where Dumfries and Galloway Tennis Centre is located), and Lochmaben Community Centre.
The venue itself has a 3 indoor tennis courts, gym, hockey pitch, spectator stand, and changing/toilet pavilion. Queen of the South Community Trust involves delivering projects and activities that benefit the community of Dumfries and Galloway.
The venue has a 30 minute drive time catchment of 80,000 people, 47 primary schools, 8 secondary schools and 3 additional sport need schools.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a tennis coach, working with players of all ages and abilities (preferable, not essential).
- Minimum LTA Level 3 coaching qualification
- LTA Accredited
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with players, parents and other business strands.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and deliver coaching programs within the centre and across school network area.
- Strong leadership skills. Experience of mentoring and progressing a quality team.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
- A passion for tennis and a commitment to helping players of all levels achieve their goals.
- Experience of running events and competition
