HEAD OF TENNIS – PURLEY SPORTS CLUB


The Head of Tennis at Purley Sports Club will be responsible for leading and delivering a high-quality tennis program, increasing participation, and ensuring that all coaching activities align with LTA best practices. This role includes administration, marketing, community outreach, and player development across all ages and skill levels.
This position requires a highly skilled coach (Level 4 or higher preferred, extensive experience required) with a passion for growing the game of tennis.
The successful candidate must be confident using technology, social media for marketing, and comfortable being filmed during sessions to provide engaging tennis reels for social media. The coach must also be at a high playing standard to be able to play in and contribute to the club's teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Player Development
•Lead by example with at least 15 hours of on-court group coaching per week.
•Develop a structured player pathway from beginner to elite level, ensuring retention and progression of all members.
•Creation of a grading system to categorise members based on skill level, ensuring appropriate groupings for coaching and competition.
•Organise, manage, and deliver all Adult & Junior coaching programs at the club.
•Run team coaching sessions for both men’s and ladies’ teams at a high playing standard (National Level preferred).
•Run club sessions to club members and Tasters for non-members.
•Deliver individual and group coaching sessions, ensuring high engagement.
•Deliver tournaments for the club to align with player development and engagement
•Support the recruitment, training, and mentoring of assistant coaches.
•Be LTA-qualified to deliver Youth Tennis, Cardio Tennis, and other LTA initiatives.
•Launch and develop a Tennis Academy to support the long-term growth of high-level players.
Community Engagement & Schools Outreach
•Build relationships with local primary and secondary schools, delivering PE lessons, after-school, and lunchtime clubs.
•Organise tennis open days, school festivals, and other promotional events.
•Develop community-based initiatives to engage underrepresented groups, disability communities, and local outreach programs.
Marketing & Promotion
•Actively promote tennis programs using social media, newsletters, and digital content.
•Create weekly tennis reels and engaging content to attract new participants and showcase club activities.
•Work closely with the club’s marketing team to increase visibility of programs.
•Represent Purley Sports Club at external networking and promotional events.
Administration & Club Development
•Manage tennis membership journeys, ensuring strong retention and satisfaction.
•Utilise ClubSpark or equivalent software for class bookings, membership tracking, and scheduling.
•Ensure that all members are correctly registered and that coaching payments are processed effectively.
•Work closely with the club management to grow and develop the Tennis holiday programs.
•Assist in fundraising, sponsorship acquisition, and partnerships to enhance club offerings.
•Ensure that all tennis facilities are maintained to a high standard, liaising with club staff as necessary.
Purley Sports Club is one of the largest members' clubs in Surrey, boasting 16 tennis courts,2 Padel Courts, 5 squash courts, a cricket pitch, a grass hockey pitch, a 6-rink bowls green, a dance studio, and a two-floor gym and functional fitness room. With over 3,000 adult and junior members, our club is renowned for its strong community and professional coaching programs. We are seeking an energetic, motivated, and dynamic Head of Tennis who is ready to grow the tennis program into something special. This individual will be responsible for developing a strong tennis pathway and working alongside the club manager to build a high-performing coaching team to deliver additional sessions and expand the program.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
•LTA Level 4 Minimum (extensive experience required).
•Strong coaching experience across all age groups and playing levels.
•High playing ability to actively participate in club teams.
•Confident with IT systems, club management software, and social media marketing.
•Experience in school and community tennis outreach.
•Willing to be filmed during sessions and create engaging content for social media.
•Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
•Comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
•Ability to build relationships across different areas of the club, including gym members and other sports sections.
•Padel coaching qualification (LTA Level 1 or higher) to deliver both group and individual Padel lessons when required.
Desirable:
•Experience in managing large coaching programs and mentoring assistant coaches.
•Proven record of revenue generation through coaching initiatives and partnerships.
•Strong playing ability, ideally at a high club or national level.

Remuneration & Benefits
•£3,000 per month starting salary, broken down as follows:
o60 hours of on-court group coaching per month at £35 per hour.
o60 hours of administration per month at £15 per hour.
•Group Coaching: Additional income at agreed hourly rates.
•Individual Coaching: Payed additionally on PAYE, with an additional court fee paid by the client to the club.
•Opportunities for additional revenue generation through programs, sponsorships, and partnerships.
•Profit share opportunities available after the initial term.
•Flexible working hours, including admin time and coaching sessions.
•Paid holiday entitlement (5.6 weeks, pro-rata including bank holidays).
•Workplace pension scheme (NEST) contributions.
