Tennis Coach – Player Development Pathway (Years 1–6)

The Opportunity
This is not a “balls-and-feeding” coaching role.
Singlegate is seeking a dynamic, inspirational tennis coach to build confidence, character, and sporting excellence across Years 1-6. This role is about far more than teaching forehands — it is about shaping young people, creating a tennis culture, and developing a clear pathway from first lesson to competitive player.
You will introduce beginners to the game through high-energy, structured sessions that are fun, progressive, and rooted in strong technical foundations.
Your Mission
To design and deliver a wholeschool beginner pathway that:
Builds confidence and enjoyment from the first session
Develops technically sound, match-aware players
Inspires pupils to represent Singlegate with pride
Creates a lifelong love of tennis and sport
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging group sessions for pupils in Years 1–6
Create age-appropriate lesson plans with clear progression
Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-standard training environment
Track pupil development and identify emerging talent
Communicate professionally with PE staff, parents, and pupils
Be a visible ambassador for Singlegates sporting ethos

Singlegate Primary School is a mixed, community primary school in the London Borough of Merton, located at South Gardens, Colliers Wood, SW19 2NT. It caters to children aged 3 to 11 years — from Nursery through Reception to Year 6.

Person Specification – Tennis Coach (Years 1–6)
Essential
Passion for coaching children and young people across a wide age range
Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire beginner players
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Professional, reliable, and well-organised
Confident managing groups and maintaining positive behaviour
Commitment to safeguarding, welfare, and school policies
Willingness to support Singlegates values and wider school life
Enhanced DBS
First Aid and Safeguarding certification
Right to work in the UK
Coaching Qualifcation LTA 2 or above
Desirable
Experience coaching in a school or junior tennis environment
Understanding of long-term player development principles
Ability to create structured lesson plans and progression pathways
Personal Qualities
