What you’ll be doing
- Deliver enjoyable, high‑quality tennis coaching throughout the year, helping every pupil make progress.
- Develop players’ technical, tactical and physical skills through thoughtful, tailored coaching.
- Inspire pupils to engage with tennis, both in School and within the wider community.
- Run taster sessions, internal competitions and activities that bring more pupils into the sport.
- Support squad training, fixtures, clubs and events across the programme.
Plan and manage fixtures, tournaments and events, ensuring all organisation is completed accurately.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with parents, offering clear and professional communication.
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to the ongoing success of the Sports Department.
- Drive the School minibus to fixtures (training provided if needed).
- Carry out additional reasonable duties to support the smooth running of the tennis programme.

Among the many strengths of Surbiton High School, our PE and Sports provision is widely celebrated as outstanding. Our large team of talented, enthusiastic teachers, coaches and support staff deliver exceptional opportunities for pupils of all abilities and interests. The School has excelled in its “Super Eight” sports, with 75 national selections in the past 5 years, 76 national titles and 51 regional successes in the past 3 years, and participation in over 88 national competitions and over 1,000 fixtures each year. At the same time, we maintain an inclusive, welcoming programme where every pupil can discover a place in sport and physical activity.
Recently ranked as the strongest girls’ tennis school in Great Britain by the LTA, our tennis programme continues to go from strength to strength, with multiple national championship wins and dominant performances across U13, U15 and U18 competitions. From our tailored year-round elite programme to our inclusive summer sessions for recreational players, we ensure that everyone can take part and develop a genuine love of tennis.

What you’ll bring
- A strong tennis background, ideally with competition‑level experience.
- A Level 1 or Level 2 tennis coaching qualification (helpful but not essential).
Confidence coaching pupils at a range of ages and stages, including high‑performing athletes.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of technique, conditioning and safe practice.
- The ability to work well within a dynamic, collaborative sports team.
- Strong organisational skills, with a proactive and reliable approach.
- Warmth, approachability and the ability to build trust with pupils, parents and colleagues.
- High personal standards, integrity and an enthusiastic, positive attitude.
- Commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing and professional conduct at all times.
- A willingness to continue growing your skills and learning as a coach.
