Head Coach
This is a leadership role.
We are looking for a Head Coach who wants to take ownership of a program and build it properly.
The successful candidate will lead and structure all coaching activity at Thorncliffe, creating a clear, ambitious and sustainable pathway for juniors and adults.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement a clear LTA-aligned junior pathway
• Grow structured adult coaching and retention pathways
• Develop squads
• Expand holiday camps and additional revenue streams
• Lead and develop assistant coaches beneath you
• Strengthen and grow school partnerships across 13 feeder schools
• Drive inclusive and disability provision as a core strand, not an add-on
• Ensure high safeguarding, compliance and professional standards at all times
• Work with the committee to align coaching growth with future facility expansion
This is not a maintenance role.
It is a build-and-grow role.
You will have autonomy to structure the program.
You will have committee backing for professionalism and compliance.
You will be expected to lead, not simply deliver.
There is significant scope for growth in:
• Structured Saturdays
• School-based delivery
• Disability and inclusive programs
• Private lessons
• Holiday camps
• Pickleball crossover participation
• Future padel / expanded facilities
For the right coach, this is a platform to build a substantial program in a large catchment area with no nearby competing clubs.
Thorncliffe Tennis & Pickleball Club is a fast-growing, community-driven club in North Sheffield serving a very large catchment area with no nearby competing tennis clubs. The club is uniquely positioned to grow and lead tennis provision in this part of the city.
Over the past 18–24 months, the club has undergone significant transformation. Membership and junior participation have doubled and participation increases weekly. Courts have been resurfaced, LED floodlighting installed, public access gates introduced and a thriving pickleball program established. Two additional courts are being brought back into use and future facility expansion, including potential padel and covered provision, is actively being explored.
There is the opportunity to work with 13 feeder schools and the club has strong partnerships with school sport leaders and other local organisations. We deliver structured junior sessions, adult coaching, Free Parks Tennis, funded disability provision and SEN wheelchair tennis. School festivals and outreach programs are already embedded, with further growth in the pipeline.
The club has received multiple accolades in recognition of its transformation, governance and community impact.
With a proactive Chair driving strategic change, strong committee backing and grant funding supporting inclusive development, Thorncliffe offers a rare opportunity to lead and build a program in an area with significant untapped potential.
We are looking for a coach who wants to lead, not just deliver.
This role would suit either an experienced coach ready to take ownership of a programme, or an ambitious coach with the drive and desire to grow into a leadership role with the right support and backing.
