Head Coach
The Spencer Lawn Tennis Club is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Head Coach to coordinate, manage, develop, and deliver our established coaching programme, as well as help with the general running of the tennis club.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to make their mark on our club, to drive and shape our tennis activities and coaching programme, as well as be a key representative of the tennis club with the other constituent clubs (such as hockey, cricket, squash, netball and lacrosse) of the wider Spencer Club, a large, community focused charitable sports club in south west London (SW18).
Responsibilities:
• Administer, organise, deliver and promote the competitive tennis programme
• Develop our mini, junior and adult coaching programme
• Help organise and support club social events, such as Open Days, tournaments and corresponding members social events
• Work with local schools to develop strong school links
• Develop and deliver school holiday camps
• Work with and coordinate other existing club coaches (currently 3) to deliver scheduled training sessions
• Ensure effective and regular liaison with the LTA
• Attend and report to the club committee when required
• Ensure minimum standards of coaching, timeliness and financial payments are met
• Advocate for our tennis club to the wider Spencer Club community, including representing tennis on various wider committees and liaising with groundskeepers, membership managers, hospitality staff etc.
Spencer Lawn Tennis Club is an all-inclusive, friendly club located in South West London and was the LTA’s Surrey Tennis Club of the Year in 2019. We currently have a very strong membership base of 550 members across all age groups, with a 2 year+ waiting list for new members.
We have a total of 10 courts, comprising 6 artificial clay courts (that are less than 5 years old) and 4 pristine grass courts (open usually between May to September), with a LED lighting system installed just a few years ago.
We currently have 6 men's, 5 women's, 3 mixed, and 1 mid-week Wilson Surrey League teams, as well as 2 National League teams and 2 mixed teams in the Surrey Knockout Winter competition.
We also run an open Club Championship and other club-wide tournaments every
year, plus a busy social tennis programme, after school clubs, summer camps and an active private coaching schedule.
The tennis club is part of the wider Spencer Club, established in 1872 when Earl Spencer (great grand uncle of Diana Princess of Wales) granted permission for the Club to be founded.
As well as tennis, the Spencer Club has 5 other sporting sections (cricket, hockey, squash, lacrosse, netball) which share a clubhouse with a lively bar, full catering facilities, changing rooms, showers, and meeting rooms.
Licenced LTA Coach Qualification L3
• Valid DBS and First Aid trained
• Previous experience of managing a coaching programme at a club
• Experience of managing assistant coaches
• Experience of running Junior Camps with several Assistant Coaches & Helpers
• Enthusiastic, reliable, well organised and approachable
• Excellent face to face communicator
• Good business planning, administrative and IT skills including social med

Shortlisted candidates will then be asked to conduct a training session with club members and then present to the tennis committee based on a pre-supplied brief.
The successful applicant would ideally start in early to mid-August 2026 (or earlier).
