Head Coach
Theydon Bois Lawn Tennis Club (TBLTC) is seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring Head Coach with experience to lead the Club’s tennis programmes and support the Club’s ambition to make TBLTC a place that supports the growth of tennis as a sport for all.
This is a self-employed role, based on standard LTA-approved terms and conditions.
TBLTC is run by a committee of volunteers who work closely with the Head Coach and together oversee and plan the tennis coaching programme. The new Head Coach will be expected to join our voluntary committee and attend regular committee meetings.
TBLTC’s new Head Coach will be expected to lead a variety of weekly group classes including adult improvers sessions, midweek and weekend cardio classes and other weekly group classes across all ability levels. There is also the potential to run private coaching classes.

The Head Coach’s principal responsibilities include the following:
•Partnering with the Committee to deliver the club’s vision, providing an inclusive, friendly and exciting programme, and making TBLTC a great place to play for all our members.
•Creating a sense of community leading to player retention and the growth of the club.
•Assuming overall responsibility for the junior and senior tennis programmes.
Responsible for further developing organised weekly social tennis sessions, with a coach attending some of these fun sessions for 1 hour on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
•Working alongside the other coaches and parents/volunteers.
•Overall responsibility for the delivery of Ian Smith Schools Development Programme aimed at encouraging children to play tennis and further strengthen our junior programme.
Working alongside our existing coach to continue to develop our weekly “after schools red ball programme” with local schools.
Further develop coaching for teams and working with team captains to achieve this. Develop more junior teams and recruit more junior members.
•Excellence in demonstrating timely adherence and compliance with LTA and the Club’s standards.
•Acting as an ambassador for the Club in terms of:
Role modelling the Club’s values; being a friendly first point of contact for new and existing members; engaging with visitors, guests and parents in a friendly and inclusive manner that demonstrates a professional club; building relationships across the membership, including with those who do not use coaching facilities; encouraging the retention and growth of the Club’s membership; and taking primary responsibility for on-premises safeguarding and tidiness in accordance with the Club’s processes, reporting identified issues promptly to appropriate Committee members.
TBLTC prides itself on being a very warm and welcoming club. It has 6 excellent artificial grass courts one of which is floodlit. There is a comfortable clubhouse, an outside terrace and seating area. In addition there is a club bar and a small kitchen area within the clubhouse.
Coaching is presently run by 2 LTA-qualified coaches covering an extensive year-round programme across all ages and abilities, with competitive tennis for adults.
The successful applicant will ideally be an LTA-Accredited Level 3 experienced coach or above. An up to date First Aid training is also highly desirable.
On-Court they will be expected to have:
•Mastery in tailoring programmes to cater to a range of skill levels, ensuring a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
•Commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all participants by adhering to safeguarding policies and promoting a positive and inclusive sporting environment in line with the values of the Club.
Off-Court:
•Being responsible for maintaining their LTA accreditation at all times, relevant insurances and for their own CPD.
•Being at all times a positive ambassador for TBLTC.
•Ability to provide mentorship and development opportunities that enable progression and continuous improvement/training.
•Interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain a harmonious club environment.
.Maintaining relevant and timely financial record keeping for our Club Treasurer.
The appointment will be subject to the provision of an enhanced DBS check.
