Governance Secretary
Berkshire Tennis is seeking a dedicated and experienced Governance Secretary to be the key person responsible for the Charity's structure and legal standing. This is a vital role focused on ensuring we have strong rules and processes in place, that we always meet our main goals, and that we follow all the important rules set by charity law, the Charity Commission, and our LTA funding agreements. The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing tennis in Berkshire and committed to supporting the Board of Trustees in running the organisation smoothly and properly.
Your core function involves leading the Charity's compliance efforts. This means making sure we follow all charity laws, handling official reports (like statutory returns), and delivering on our commitments to the LTA. You will help organise the logistics for the Board and Committee meetings, alongside running the Annual General Meeting (AGM) with the Chair, and keeping all official lists of Trustees, members, and conflicts of interest up-to-date. Furthermore, you will help manage serious processes—such as disciplinary matters, member complaints, and checking how well the Board is working—and you'll support the Chair in setting the long-term vision for the county.
Berkshire Tennis is the organisation that supports and delivers tennis & padel in the county in partnership with the LTA with the greater goal of 'Tennis Opened Up'.
Candidates should possess proven, recognised experience in setting up and managing organisational rules. It would be great for applicants to be organised and detail-oriented, especially with paperwork and meeting minutes. Strong written and verbal communication skills a huge advantage, combined with a demonstrated ability to build excellent working relationships with a diverse group of people, from our Trustees and volunteers to external partners like the LTA. A solid understanding of the tennis landscape in Britain is highly desirable.
