Set players up for a lifetime in tennis by giving them the fundamental doubles skills to play and love the game. Designed to build your understanding of the core principles, this course will show you how to make doubles fun, engaging, and empowering. Through the pillars of roles, positioning, and teamwork, you’ll learn how to help players step onto the doubles court with confidence.
Principles of Doubles has been developed by Rob Smith and Lorna Woodroffe. Rob is a Level 5 coach and LTA Tutor who has coached players on both the WTA and ATP doubles tours. Lorna is a Level 4 Coach and LTA Tutor, a former Top 70 WTA doubles player, and has represented Great Britain at the Olympics.
On the course, you’ll;
· Break down doubles into four distinct roles: the Server, the Server’s Partner, the Returner, and the Returner’s Partner.
· Explore teamwork, positioning, and roles in doubles for players across all the stages of development - from Blue, Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow to Adults.
· Take away targeted drills designed to develop specific skills for each of the four doubles roles.
· Discover the principles of the British Tennis doubles system and how to make them meaningful for players at the beginning of their journey.
“If we want players to play the game for life, then we need to prepare them to play doubles, because it’s in the very fabric of our sport.”
