Local MP, Geraint Davies personally presented Swansea Tennis coach, Francesca Lewis, with her LTA Performance Coach of the Year award last Friday (30 July).
The presentation took place at Swansea Sports Park Tennis Courts and commended Lewis for delivering a consistently successful coaching programme and thinking innovatively and outside the box during lockdown.
Lewis, who operates at the Regional Performance Development Centres in Swansea as part of the LTA Performance Pathway, is the first female Head Coach of an LTA Regional Player Development Centre, and in 2020, was coach to two junior players who were ranked No.1 in Great Britain.
During the period of lockdown restrictions, Francesca continued to inspire those she coached with online challenges, tasks, and virtual coaching sessions, and went out of her way to gain knowledge and experience from some of the UK's leading coaches.
Lewis was announced as the LTA Performance Coach of the Year by Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Paralympian and Chair of ukactive, at a live-streamed awards ceremony held on 24 June.
The presentation at Swansea Sports Park Tennis Courts provided the opportunity for Geraint Davies, MP for Swansea West, to personally present the trophy to Francesca.
“I feel in ore of Francesca Lewis, and privileged to present her with the Performance Coach of the Year Award she won at the national 2021 LTA Tennis Awards.” Said Geraint Davies.
“This is a uniquely proud moment for Swansea and Wales as we celebrate her success. Coaching tennis at the highest level requires enormous skill, focus and dedication so to win the award as the ‘best of the best’ is a truly remarkable achievement. I hope Francesca spends time soaking in the sunshine of her success and continues to bring Welsh excellence to the tennis courts.”
