24-year-old Francesca Jones ticked off a new milestone in her career after winning her first WTA 125 title in Contrexeville, France.
Fifth seed Jones defeated home favourite and fourth seed Elsa Jacquemot 6-4, 7-6(2) in an hour and 43 minutes to clinch the title in Sunday’s final.
Jones had trailed by a break in the second set but fought back to seal the victory in a dominant tie-break performance on her fifth match point.
It marks the 10th singles title and the biggest trophy of her career to date. All of Jones’ titles so far have come on clay.
Jones is currently enjoying the best season of her career to date. The WTA 125 Contrexeville title adds to her further two trophies this season at the W75 Varcaria and W75 Pargue.
The British star has also picked up WTA Tour wins on the grass in Nottingham and Eastbourne, qualified for her first WTA 1000 event in Madrid and made another WTA 125 semi-final in Cancun.
The British star enjoyed an impressive campaign on the French clay coming off the back of a first round exit at Wimbledon. She only lost one set throughout the week, picking up wins over Tessah Andrianjafitrimo, Carole Monnet, Rebeka Masarova and Petra Marcinko.
Jones is now up to a career-high of world No.104 in the live WTA rankings.
