Broom’s fine form continues as Brit claims singles and doubles titles at Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow

• 2 minute read

Charles Broom maintained his fast start to the season by claiming the singles and doubles titles at the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow at Scotstoun Community Indoor Tennis Centre.

Broom had already claimed one title in 2026 with the doubles crown at the Lexus Nottingham Open in January, and having reached at least the quarter finals of his last four singles draws, confidence was high going into the event for the 27-year-old from St. Albans, who also held the number one seeding.

Broom’s run to the singles title included defeating four fellow Brits, including 2023 Wimbledon boys’ singles champion Henry Searle in the quarter finals, and number three seed and doubles partner for the week Giles Hussey in the semi-final. After overcoming Hussey in three sets, Broom faced rising British talent Lui Maxted, a graduate of Texas Christian University along with the likes of Cam Norrie and Jacob Fearnley, in the decider.

A tight opening set went on serve until a mammoth seventh game, with game points for both players and several deuces, went the way of Broom and swung the momentum firmly in his favour. Broom would go on to win eight of the next ten games, sealing the first set and dominating the second to claim a 6-4 6-1 win.

After the match, Broom said, "It's been a great week, we both played such a good level throughout the first set, I knew I had to up my game in the second and thankfully I did. It feels pretty special to win both events and I can take a lot of confidence into the next few tournaments."

The singles crown capped a perfect week for Charles Broom, who had added the doubles title the day before alongside Giles Hussey. The pair were number two seeds in the draw, and justified their billing by reaching the final without dropping a set. There, they faced number one seeds Tom Hands and Harry Wendelken, who started the final strongly with an early break to take the first set, the first setback Broom and Hussey had faced all week. The number two seeds rallied in the second set, taking it 6-3 to force a match tiebreak, and after securing a crucial minibreak at 6-6 in the decider, Broom and Hussey held on to secure a 3-6 6-3 10-8 win.

After the match, Hussey said, "It's been a long time coming that we partnered up again, and what's nice about playing with a friend is that you can bounce off each other, pick each other up. I've had a few good runs here, it's an amazing city so as long as there are tournaments here I'll keep coming back."

Following the conclusion of the singles final, Tournament Director Mike Cohen said, “We’ve had another fantastic week of international tennis here at Scotstoun Community Indoor Tennis Centre, made even better by some brilliant performances by home favourites. A massive congratulations to Charles Broom for claiming both titles, especially after coming so close here a fortnight ago, and to Giles Hussey for his doubles title.”

International tournaments such as the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow are part of the LTA’s Performance Competitions Calendar (PCC) which provides significantly enhanced opportunities for British players at each age and stage of the performance player pathway on home soil. The calendar is designed to provide comprehensive opportunities for British players to play, earn ranking points and win prize money at home, throughout the year.

International tennis heads south to Yorkshire this week, as the men and women compete at the Lexus British Pro Series Sheffield, a combined ITF W35/M25 event.
