BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells 2026: Jack Draper’s win over Novak Djokovic – Behind the numbers
• 2 minute read
Jack Draper’s win over 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has been one of the matches and performances of the year so far.
The Brit came back to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) and return to the quarter-finals in Indian Wells for the second time in two years.
As the defending champion looks ahead to the next round, we break down the key numbers and stats from his stand out victory.
1 – The British star needed just one match point to get over the line against the five-time former champion. Having missed the chance to serve for the match at 5-4 and then going a double mini-break down in the tie-break, Draper showed great fighting spirit to get past Djokovic at the first time of asking.
2 – Draper is one of two British players into the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, joining Cam Norrie in the final eight. Draper and Norrie are the only two British players in history to win singles titles in the Californian desert.
3 – This milestone win for Draper was his third against a player ranked inside the ATP top three. His previous wins both came against Carlos Alcaraz at the HSBC Championships (2024) and Indian Wells (2025).
6 – Draper is through to a sixth ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final of his career so far and his first since Rome last year.
9 – The 24-year-old is now on a nine-match win streak at Indian Wells, which is quickly becoming his best tournament on tour. Draper won his first ATP Masters 1000 title in the desert last year and is continuing to ride that high so far this year.
13 – Draper’s serve is one of his biggest weapons and the Briton hit 13 aces against the former world No.1 on Wednesday night. He also won 74% (44/66) points on his first serve compared to Djokovic’s 65% (40/62)
39 – The British No.1 was firing on all cylinders against Djokovic and racked up an impressive 39 winners compared to his opponent's 26. Interestingly, Draper made 35 unforced errors to Djokovic’s 36.
86 – Draper found great success coming into the net against the 38-year-old and might look to utilise that as a key tactic moving forward. He won 86% (6/7) points when he approached the net across the match.
98-99 – The match couldn’t have been any closer, in fact there was only one point between the two players. Djokovic actually won one more point than Draper, finishing the match with 99 points to Draper’s 98.
264 – It’s been a long journey back from injury for Draper. His win over Djokovic sees him through to the quarter-final of an ATP event for the first time in 264 days – at the HSBC Championships last summer.
