Johanna Konta in Fed Cup action

Great Britain's Fed Cup team will face Japan on an indoor hard court in their crucial upcoming World Group II play-off.

Captain Anne Keothavong will lead her team to the Bourbon Beans Dome in Miki City for the tie on April 21-22.

The tie will mark the third encounter between the two teams - they have met just twice before in 1972 and 1985 with both ties going in favour of the Brits.

Miki City is situated in the northwest of Kobe and is the host nation's first home tie in three years. While Japan are bidding to reach the World Group for the first time since 2015, a win for Britain would mean they'd return to the elite level for the first time since 1993.

For the second year in a row, Great Britain won all four of their ties at the Euro/Africa Zone Group I event in Tallinn, Estonia earlier this month. Johanna Konta, Heather Watson contested in the singles, while Anna Smith teamed up with Fed Cup debutant Katie Boulter for success in the doubles.

Following their recent run, the Brits will be strong contenders going into April's tie. However, the hosts still pose a tough challenge, especialliy if rising star Naomi Osaka is available for selection.

At this same stage in last year's event, Great Britain travelled to Constanta, Romania, and faced a strong team starring Simona Halep. Despite a gutsy performance, they fell 3-1 to the Romanians. Their clash against Japan presents their fourth opportunity since 2012 to reach the elite World Group and they will be hoping to build on their current winning streak to turn the tables.
