Advantage members treated to training session with former world No.1, Jamie Murray
As you know, being an Advantage member comes with plenty of benefits; but it doesn’t just stop at great discounts, access to tickets to the grass court season events and wonderful ways to get out and play tennis – you’re also given the chance to win money can’t buy experiences.
At the end of last year, we held a newsletter competition prize draw exclusively for our Advantage members, in partnership with Dunlop, where 10 lucky winners were invited to the National Tennis Centre in London for a once in a lifetime on-court tennis session with former doubles world No.1, Jamie Murray.
The winners consisted of five adult and five junior tennis players, all at various stages in their tennis journey. Both the adult and junior sessions involved Murray carrying out drills with the players, as well as some activities where they had the opportunity to play alongside him, while Murray also served against the adults to test their skills and see if they could return one of his serves.
Each competition winner was sent home with a goodie bag full of tennis essentials kindly provided by our partner Dunlop, as well as autographs and photographs with Murray as a reminder of the experience.
Holly, the mother of one of the junior competition winners, expressed how much the day meant to daughter Amelia, “Seeing the facilities of the LTA National Tennis Centre and all the people involved in the running such a fantastic venue was such a great experience” she said.
“Amelia enjoyed learning about how juniors can come through the ranks from the local clubs to becoming a pro and is now inspired to work harder than ever to become a professional tennis player. She loved the idea of spending her summer holidays staying at the facilities and playing tennis all day, using the amazing canteen and player lounge with other like-minded people.”
"Jamie was amazing with all the children, giving them memories to treasure for a lifetime. Amelia enjoyed learning from a professional and has gone into school today telling her teachers and classmates about the shot she smashed which hit Jamie in the head – sorry about that Jamie!”
“Amelia has her training tonight at her local club and I’m sure she will be passing on stories of her amazing experience at the National Tennis Centre and will be using the tips she got from Jamie in her match this Sunday.”
The event was a fantastic way to provide existing players with tips to improve their games, while also inspiring the upcoming generation of tennis talent – and who knows, there might be a future professional player in and amongst the group thanks to this experience!
