GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR SELF-EMPLOYED

Following the Chancellor’s statement on Thursday (26 March) in relation to providing support for the self-employed, further details will be added to this page outlining what this means for those involved in tennis in Britain as further details are released.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

The absolute priority of everyone in Britain needs to be protecting the health of the nation, with a requirement to dramatically adjust our behaviour to help slow the spread of the disease, prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed, and ultimately save lives. The way everyone can do this is complying with the Government’s guidance and staying at home.

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday evening (23 March) all tennis facilities and courts should be closed, and tennis coaching and activity should be put on hold with immediate effect.

The National Tennis Centre is closed, and all activity delivered by the LTA remains suspended for the foreseeable future, including all LTA organised coaching sessions, programmes and training courses.  We have also now extended the cancellation of all LTA staged and LTA approved competitions (grade 1 to 6) up to 31 May 2020.

During these challenging times for our society,  our focus over the coming weeks will be to ensure tennis coaches, venues, volunteers, officials and players are supported in any way they can be, so that tennis in Britain emerges from this period in as strong and healthy position as possible, and the sport is able to resume its role in keeping the nation active.

We are continuing to work with Government to help us achieve this, and establishing what further support can be provided to help all those impacted by this unprecedented situation.

Further guidance will be added to this page in due course relating to the statement made by the Chancellor as part of the announcement made on Friday (20 March).

The information on this page has been produced based on the latest information available to us and in consultation with both Tennis Scotland and Tennis Wales, and follows our continued dialogue with Government.

The guidance on this page is intended to be read in conjunction with the information on the LTA’s main coronavirus (Covid-19) page which provides links to the latest Government and NHS advice.

LTA Programmes and Initiatives

All activity relating specifically to the Big Tennis Weekends, Tennis for Kids (see below for more information) and Team Challenge is on hold until further notice.

Tennis for Kids Delivery (LTA Youth)

Following on from the communication that LTA Youth training days are postponed until further notice, all activity relating to Tennis for Kids will also be placed on hold.

LTA will shortly be closing the Tennis for Kids course search finder and implementing measures on ClubSpark to avoid new courses being uploaded for the time being. The fulfilment of coach and participant packs will also be postponed.

Following the Government’s statement on Monday to keep social gatherings to a minimum and avoid unnecessary travel, LTA provides the following recommendations to coaches:

  • Avoid uploading any new Tennis for Kids courses
  • Cancel any courses that have 0 bookings
  • Take immediate steps to postpone or cancel courses due to start in the next few months and which have bookings, offering a refund to parents (£25) if cancelled
  • For any courses that are part way through, postpone or cancel the remaining sessions, offering a partial refund to parents (dependent on the number of sessions remaining). Please note that partial refund for Tennis for Kids cannot be actioned through ClubSpark so will need to be organised independently.
  • For courses starting later in the year, change the status from ‘Public’ or ‘Direct Link Only’ to ‘Hidden’

The process to change the dates of your course in ClubSpark is outlined here .

You can find guidance here on how to action a refund in Clubspark-How-To-Refund-A-Booking.

To support your communication to parents, LTA has developed an email template that can be accessed here – template

Coach Accreditation Members and Membership

We have agreed a period of leniency for all LTA Accredited Coaches which will see a temporary extension to their Accreditation grace period and insurance policies.

If your Coach Accredition has recently expired or is due to expire in the coming months we will be extending your accreditation grace period until 31st July, this will provide temporary relief of all pre-requisites including DBS, safeguarding and first aid training and CPD credits. During this period coaches who are in their grace period will now be covered by the insurance policies. Those coaches affected will receive an email with more information.

Coaches not already part of Coach Accreditation will need to meet requirements as normal. It may therefore not be possible for new coaches to join the Coach Accreditation during this period, due to an inability to complete training requirements.

LTA Coach Mentoring Programme

Whilst the application process is online and continues to stay open, we will be revising the dates of our initial training blocks. More details will be posted on the dedicated Mentoring Page
