Head of 11&U Junior Development
Lead and deliver group and private coaching sessions for players aged 11 and under, focusing on fundamental skill development and enjoyment of the game.
Manage and grow Kiwi Tennis’s 11&U development pathway, including Hot Shots Red, Orange, and Green stages.
Create and evolve a structured curriculum for Red, Orange, and Green squads aligned with LTAD and performance pathways.
Develop and oversee term and holiday coaching programmes, clinics, and camps for beginner to pre-performance players.
Identify talented young athletes through school visits, club coaching programmes, and community outreach.
Develop and manage the local Hot Shots Tournaments pathway, ensuring players have a positive, supportive first competition experience.
Ensure players from funded school programmes are offered clear pathways to continue in coaching and stay engaged.
Mentor and coordinate with assistant coaches to ensure high delivery standards.
Collaborate with the Director of Tennis and leadership team to plan and run professional development sessions for the coaching staff.
Work closely with parents, schools, and club partners to support player retention and progression.
Collaborate with Pete Hoyland, Director of Tennis, to align 11&U development with the broader Kiwi Tennis performance pathway.
Track player development using appropriate progressions and assessment tools.
Assist with local and regional Hot Shots events, team competitions, and club days.
Represent Kiwi Tennis in community events and promotional initiatives to grow grassroots participation.
Kiwi Tennis Hamilton Ltd. is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and experienced Head of 11&U Junior Development to lead, grow, and deliver our foundational player development programmes in Hamilton and the wider Waikato region.
This full-time role is based at the Waikato Tennis Centre, a premier facility with 3 indoor and 11 outdoor hardcourts, and plays a vital part in the long-term athlete development (LTAD) pathway. You will lead group and private coaching for players aged 11 and under, oversee regional Hot Shots initiatives, support school and club-based programmes, and work closely with local coaches, parents, and club partners to identify and nurture emerging talent.
Our 11&U coaching programmes are delivered across a range of clubs and community venues, including:

Beerescourt Tennis Club
Te Awamutu Tennis Club
Gordonton Tennis Club
Tatuanui Tennis Club
Waihi Tennis Club
We also work closely with local primary schools to introduce tennis and support early-stage player development, including:
Endeavour Primary School
Rototuna Primary School
Tamahere Primary School
Key Requirements:
Minimum ITF Level 1 (or national equivalent)
Proven experience working with children aged 5–11 in a tennis coaching or physical education setting
Deep understanding of player development fundamentals, age-appropriate coaching, and LTAD principles
Excellent communication skills with both children and adults
Energetic, fun, and positive attitude with a passion for grassroots coaching
Organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple programmes and schedules
Full NZ driver’s license, current First Aid Certification, and Police Vetting clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable Attributes:
Experience running junior programmes in a club or academy environment
Familiarity with Tennis NZ Hot Shots and Junior Development frameworks
Skills in player tracking software or online platforms (e.g., Team App, ClubSpark)
Interest in coach education and mentoring junior coaches and assistants
