Jamie Murray selected to represent Team GB at the 2020 Olympic Games

• 1 MINUTE READ

Team GB has today announced that seven-time Grand Slam winner Jamie Murray has been selected to partner Neal Skupski in the men’s doubles competition for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, following Dan Evans withdrawing from the Games after testing positive for COVID-19.

Tokyo 2020 will be Murray’s fourth Olympic Games having previously competed in Beijing, London and Rio.

Team GB Tennis Team Leader, Iain Bates said: “I am delighted that Jamie will be joining us on the plane to Tokyo. It is great to have an athlete of Jamie’s experience and calibre as part of team and I look forward to the Games starting in just over a week’s time.”

Murray and Skupski will join forces once again having competed together on the ATP Tour last season as well as the Davis Cup Finals in 2019, during Great Britain's run to the semi-finals.

In 2020, the Brits were crowned champions at the Sofia Open in Bulgaria and reached finals at the Western & Southern Open ATP Masters 1000 tournament and the Erste Bank Open.

They were also voted as the Fans' Favourite Doubles Team at the 2020 ATP Awards.

Murray and Skupski will be hoping that their experience together on the doubles court as well as strong starts to the season - which has seen Murray reach the semi-final at the Australian Open and Skupski lift the Wimbledon mixed doubles trophy - will stand them in medal contention.

In Tokyo they will be joined by fellow Brits Andy Murray, Joe Salisbury and Heather Watson to make up the Team GB tennis squad.
