ITV National Diversity Awards 2020 Finalist

We are delighted to announce that our Young Person of the Year winner for 2017 and 2018 is a finalist of the ITV National Diversity Awards. Jonathon Dawes from Rhyl has been shortlisted in the Positive Role Model (age) category for his work as a tennis coach, volunteer and also for his work as Welsh Youth Parliament Member for the Vale of Clwyd and he needs your votes!

This category recognises an individual within the community who shows selflessness, drives change and works tirelessly to inspire others.

As the winner of our Tennis Wales and British Tennis Awards, Jonathon is well known within Welsh tennis as being a volunteer in the sport since the age of 11. He has dedicated 1000s of hours on court to breaking down participation barriers to open up tennis to everyone, making it a more inclusive sport through coaching, tournaments, and a variety of other tennis activities. Jonathon has delivered tennis to over 1000 young people n a deprived area. Giving many the opportunity to pick up a racket for the first time as well as providing coaching for wheelchair & learning disabilities tennis at schools, clubs, and centres.

Jonathon has also run a variety of community initiatives including National Play Day, which has helped to open tennis up across the community. Jonathon said,

"Tennis Wales has always been an incredibly supportive of my work as a volunteer and as a coach and I am incredibly grateful to them for supporting me with this award"
