James Armstrong appointed to join Tennis Wales Board

Tennis Wales, the National Governing Body for tennis in Wales has concluded its recruitment for an Independent Director to join the organisation.

Having undertaken a thorough recruitment process James Armstrong has been appointed to the Board as the organisation looks to deliver its 2020 – 2024 strategy for tennis opened up across Wales.

Barry Cawte, Independent Chair of Tennis Wales commented on James’ appointment

We are delighted James is joining the board. As well as a passion for tennis he brings with him experience of working with one of the biggest and most successful organisations in the country. His commercial and governance experience I have no doubt will add great value to Tennis in Wales.

James has worked as the Group Chief Risk Officer for Admiral Group Plc for the last 7 years and along with his love of tennis will bring a great amount of personal and professional experience to Tennis Wales as we continue to open tennis up across Wales.

Commenting on his desire to join Tennis Wales as a Director, James added

I am delighted to have been asked to join the Tennis Wales Board at this exciting time for tennis as the game continues to grow in Wales. Along with my love for the game I hope the experience I have gained throughout my career will help me to assist Tennis Wales achieve their 2020 - 2024 strategy

Tennis Wales’ 2020 – 2024 vision for tennis opened up across Wales has seen the sport grow during the last 18 months. More than 116,000 adults picked up a racket during the last months, and tennis club membership has grown by 18%. The organisation is now focussed on navigating the pandemic, retaining the new participants in the sport, and ensuring tennis is a sport that’s open to everyone across Wales.
