On a glorious day in Manchester, Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas added her name to the illustrious list of winners at The Northern Lawn Tennis Club claiming the Aegon Manchester Trophy title.

Victory over Serbia’s Alexandra Krunic 6-4, 6-4 sees Zarina join tennis greats Billie-Jean King and Pete Sampras who have both won titles on the grass courts of Didsbury.

Blazing sunshine and a capacity crowd set the perfect backdrop for an exciting final which saw Kazakhstan’s only professional tennis player account for the seventh seed in straight sets.

The unseeded 23-year-old, previously ranked as high as No.31 is on the comeback trail, after a career threatening wrist injury put her out of the game for seven months.

“It was a tough week but I was playing really good, I am happy with my game I like to play on grass and I like to play here in Manchester, the crowd was amazing so I am really happy."

The Centre Court crowd were also treated to a competitive doubles final featuring Kai-Chen Chang [TPE] and Marina Erakovic [NZL] versus Magdalena Frech [POL]  nd An-Sophie Mestach [BEL] in which Frech and Mestach emerged victorious, taking the match 6-4, 7-6(5).
