Clarke and Boulter set for first LTA British Tour event

• 2 MINUTE READ

Jay Clarke and Katie Boulter are among the players confirmed to take part in the first of four behind closed doors British Tour events organised by the LTA at the National Tennis Centre next month.

Starting on Thursday 2 July the Women’s Premier Tier tournament will run over four days, and the Men’s Tier 1 tournament, starting Friday 3 July, will run over three days. Each event hosts 16 men and 16 women including Clarke and Boulter, as well as Emma Raducanu, Naomi Broady, Lloyd Glasspool and Aidan McHugh.

'It’s fantastic to know that the return of top quality tennis is just around the corner'

Boulter and Clarke are two of six players across both draws who are supported by the LTA’s Pro Scholarship Programme, which provides world class coaching, medical and financial support to developing players aged 16-24 with potential to reach the top 100 within five years. Raducanu, McHugh, Jodie Burrage and Anton Matusevich are also part of the programme.

The LTA has increased total prize money by 50% at each of the four behind closed doors tournaments, and all players from the first round onwards will receive prize money to help support the incomes and expenses from a wider base of players who have been impacted by the suspension of professional tennis during the Covid-19 crisis.

Over the four week swing there will be two Premier Tier men’s and women’s singles events and two Tier 1 men’s and women’s singles events.

Richard Joyner, LTA Tournament Director, said:

“We’re very pleased with the number and calibre of entrants we had for these tournaments, and the first event promises to be a very exciting spectacle. During the coronavirus crisis, the LTA have been working incredibly hard to support all our players, venues, coaches and officials through this very challenging time, and it’s fantastic to know that the return of top quality tennis is just around the corner.”
