Tennis Q&A with rock band Lawson

This year British Tennis will be serving up a volley of noise both on and off the court after launching a new music section with Shoot Music.

We caught up with musician Adam Pitts from rock band Lawson and chatted to him about his love for tennis. Check out their new single ‘Money’!

How did you get into tennis?

  • I’ve always loved watching and playing Tennis, although I’m much better at watching than playing. I’ve managed to get along to Wimbledon and Eastbourne over the last few years and nothing beats actually being there.

If you were a tennis player, which pro would you most be play like and why?

  • The great Rod Laver as i’m not the tallest guy in the world, he showed you can still win a lot of grand slams at 5’8… there’s hope for me yet!

Which tennis player would make the best frontman?

  • Would have to be Dustin Brown, that man is pretty much a rock star already.

What song would you listen to in preparation for a tennis match?

  • The Sound by The 1975, it’s up beat and and got a killer guitar solo in it, what more could you want to get you pumped up?

What tennis court would you most like to play on?

  • We did a show a few years ago on court at the Arthur Ashe stadium for the US open, but I never got to hit a ball so that would definitely be up there but I don’t think anything could beat Centre Court at Wimbledon.

What is your favourite sporting movie?

  •  I’m not sure if it will count, but Dodgeball?

Who would be your dream doubles partner?

  • Would have to be Eugenie Bouchard, for obvious reasons.

Who is going to win Wimbledon this year?

  • I’m always rooting for Murray, but I think Jo Konta will do really well too, she’s an Eastbourne girl which is just down the road from where I grew up so it’s great to see her doing so well.

Which tennis player would you like to duet with?

  • I reckon Novak Djokovic has got a hell of a voice in him.

If you could write a song about a tennis player who would it be and why?

  • It would be something to inspire Murray and fire him along to another Wimbledon victory.
