British number ones Andy Murray and Elena Baltacha head up the list of winners as Tennis Scotland announce their Awards for the year ended 2009.
Both Murray and Baltacha retain their respective male and female Player of the Year trophies, with the junior accolades going to Arbroath’s Jonny O’Mara and Dundee’s Alice Keddie.
18-year-old Gordon Reid from Helensburgh, currently the world number 21 in the ITF wheelchair rankings, receives the Disability Player of the Year.
The Raymond Miquel Awards have been awarded to Lochwinnoch’s Innes McNicol and Dunblane’s Katie Gater for their great commitment and endeavour in achieving a high standard of play in Scottish tennis tournaments. Glasgow youngsters Andrew Quirk and Maia Lumsden receive the Wilkinson Sword Trophy and the Dr R L Allan Trophy respectively for their achievements throughout 2009.
Montrose Tennis Club has been awarded the Club of the Year Award at the end of a successful year for the Tayside Club. The Club attained Clubmark status and also was successful in ITV’s The People’s Millions which allowed the Club to install floodlighting for three of their courts, which they resurfaced at the same time.
Bridge of Allan based Adam Brown receives the Coach of the Year Award and his Central Mini Tennis Summer Tour initiative picks up the Participation of the Year Award.
Team of the Year goes to the East of Scotland Men’s County Team whilst the Giffnock Open Tournament is named Tournament of the Year.
There is a Special Award for North stalwart Ian Conway in recognition of his major contribution and service to the game. Ian holds a number of prominent positions which include President of the North of Scotland LTA and Captain of their Men’s County Cup team. He is also a Tennis Scotland Councillor and he has been heavily involved in the roll-out of Clubmark to North County clubs.
Jan Collins, who was instrumental in the creation and development of the Prestwick Tennis Centre in Ayrshire, is awarded the Honorary Vice-Presidents’ Award, acknowledging his outstanding voluntary service to tennis in Scotland.
