There are 2 International High Performance Centres (IHPCs) and 18 High Performance Centres (HPCs) in Great Britain. These centres are carefully designed to meet the needs of performance juniors providing high-level coaching and fitness programmes and access to top facilities.
IHPCs and HPCs are provided with:
- Specialist world class advice on delivering quality coaching on court - the programmes run by the HPCs are monitored and supported by Steven Martens (LTA Player Director), Louis Cayer (LTA Performance Programmes Manager) and Larry Jurovich (LTA Head of Coach Education)
- Funding to help reduce the cost of training
- Access to Talent & Performance Managers (TPMs), Talent & Performance Coordinators (TPCs), sports science and specialist men’s and women’s coaches
- Facilities advice and support to enhance facilities
- Access to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton
HPC Criteria
To qualify as an IHPC or HPC, a centre has to meet a number of minimum standards:
- Access to indoor courts at agreed times
- Onsite gym and player room
- Onsite facilities to ensure that the performance players have the best access to off court support
- Ideally the facilities will include accommodation and on-site tuition for the players
- All players must have access to an agreed amount of court time and have individually managed programmes
HPC Players
Performance players based at IHPCs and HPCs are mainly aged between 10 and 16 years of age and must meet certain criteria, qualifying them as top juniors against international standards. Each IHPC and HPC is working to get as many of its players as possible up to the top level.
IHPCs and HPCs also provide a great tennis programme for sparring players who play a key role in the training programme of performance players acting as hitting partners as well as developing their own tennis. To inquire about this program, contact the centre directly.
Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE)
The AASE scheme is available in the majority of centres and gives 16-18 year olds the chance to join a squad of players in their local area. The players receive 12 hours of free high quality training per week while continuing their education.
