Job Description

You will be a pivotal member of the team in maintaining effective and high-quality tennis programmes. On court coaching will form a large part of the role whereby leading the delivery of Newport’s Mini Tennis, adults, and school’s tennis programmes. You will also be required to support programme administration and planning where required.

To assist the Tennis Manager in expanding the Newport Tennis Development Programme. The coach must be organised, have good communication skills. The successful candidate must have experience working in mini tennis, juniors and/or adults. Experience selling and marketing tennis is an advantage.

Overview of the venue

Newport Live has become the first choice for sporting, leisure and cultural activities in Newport. There are three main Newport Live Gyms, three main Swimming Pools, a Tennis Centre and a well-established regional Theatre and Arts Centre. We have 4 Indoor acrylic courts and 3 outdoor macadam tennis courts.

Person Specification

Hold a minimum current Lawn Tennis Association Level 3 Qualification

Hold Current LTA Accreditation

Possess a working knowledge of the LTA development pathway and competition  environments (Cardio Tennis, Tennis Xpress and Touch Tennis qualification/training)

Hold Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

Possess excellent communication skills, verbally and written with colleagues, young people and partner agencies

The ability to work as part of a Sports Development Team

Possess excellent time management and organisational skills

Possess a customer focused approach

Ability to work on own initiative

Ability to work with young people from varying backgrounds and with  children/adults with specific needs

Can possess a good Technical and Tactical knowledge of the game

Experience of interacting with adults and young people and young people in a busy customer service environment

Experience of working with adults and young people in a Tennis environment

Experience of delivering Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced group coaching levels

Experience of event and competition organisation and management

Experience of encouraging appropriate players on programmes to compete in competitions.

Self-motivated and punctual

Patience and understanding whilst working with all pupils including children/adults/groups with specific needs

Display a professional attitude in approaching challenges in the workplace

Be able to show commitment to continuous personal development and willingness to continue training.

Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure

Demonstrate high standards of personal appearance and maintenance of a clean working environment

Ability to work flexibly including mornings, daytimes, evenings and weekends
