As the Tennis Coach, your primary responsibility will entail spearheading our tennis provision while contributing to the expansion and creation of more opportunities within the realm of tennis. This encompasses various aspects such as group coaching, individual coaching, session planning, organising events/tournaments, and fostering awareness growth. The ideal candidate will possess a profound passion for tennis coupled with a proven track record of effectively working with individuals with disabilities. You will be working mainly out of the Fishermans Green Tennis Courts, Eastbourne. A newly renovated set of four hard tennis courts which we have been designated the sole coaching provider for. When the weather is not fantastic you will be working out of our newly established indoor court within our inclusion hub. This will be a multi-sports setting so the net will be mobile.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and qualities as well as the ability to adhere to the below responsibilities.


  • Plan and deliver tennis sessions tailored to the needs and abilities of participants with disabilities.
  • Provide individualised coaching to participants, focusing on skill development, technique, and overall enjoyment of the sport.
  • Adapt coaching methods and equipment as necessary to accommodate various disabilities and ensure inclusivity.
  • Create a supportive and encouraging environment that fosters confidence and self-esteem among participants.
  • Work closely with program coordinators and other staff members to coordinate schedules, communicate participant progress, and address any concerns.
  • Ensure the safety of participants during all activities and adhere to relevant health and safety guidelines.
  • Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of coaching methods, making adjustments as needed to maximise participant engagement and progress.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect both on and off the court.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, participant progress, and any incidents or issues that arise during sessions.
  • Stay informed about advancements in adaptive sports and coaching techniques, incorporating new knowledge and strategies into coaching practices.
  • Basic court cleaning and maintenance eg. Rubbish clearance, sweeping and net height adjustment.
  • Carrying out other roles within Defiant Sports as required to meet needs of the organisation. This can include alternative venue cover and coaching other sports or sessions.



  • Previous experience coaching tennis, preferably with a focus on working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Recognised coaching qualification(s) from the LTA. (Minimum of level 2)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals of all abilities.
  • Valid UK Drivers License and own transport.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity in sports.


  • Strong understanding of different types of disabilities and their potential impact on sports participation.
  • Ability to adapt coaching methods and strategies to meet the diverse needs of participants.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to work variable hours as needed.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and best practices.
